The Twilight Saga: New Moon has a lot to live up to. Not only does this, the much-anticipated sequel to box office sensation Twilight have to balance the introduction of new characters with established favourites, maintain consistency with the original despite a new director, but it also has to deliver in the fashion stakes. Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson), Alice (Ashley Greene) and the rest of the cast of characters have become style icons, pin-ups for a generation that are capable of turning a garment into a wardrobe must-have simply by wearing it. Just look at the long list of items they’ve applied their Midas touch to – mittens from Ruth Cross, a BB Dakota cargo jacket, a Max and Cleo ra-ra dress, the list goes on and on. But do YOU think the style spell with continue with New Moon or not?

Actress Nikki Reed (aka Rosalie Hale) has been very vocal in her opinion that the Cullens didn’t look quite right in Twilight and of her hopes that these problems will be addressed in New Moon. Likewise, some fans have complained that Alice is more about haute couture than vintage chic, and so should have been dressed in designer labels during Twilight rather than boho one-offs.

These grumbles from fans and cast alike suggest there is room for improvement, but the massive popularity for the Twilight fashions suggest that any changes might risk jeopardising what has already been achieved. Perhaps anything worn by the attractive cast would look good enough to spark trends and now that the franchise is getting Hollywood’s attention, New Moon could have top fashion designers clamouring to get their clothes featured in it.

It’s a tough task, one that faces all sequels. That tricky compromise between a character maturing and developing new styles and staying true to their established onscreen look. It’s one that’s faced franchises such as Harry Potter, Spider-Man and The Matrix and they’ve all come out the other end still looking good. Do we think The Twilight Saga: New Moon can follow suit?
